BEST NEW BROADCASTER - ON AIR

CATEGORY OBJECTIVE
To recognise outstanding talent and/or promise in those new to the radio broadcasting industry specialising in on air presentation.

CATEGORY DESCRIPTION
This award is made to a new broadcaster who displays an outstanding ability to engage, inform and entertain their target audience.

AUDIO
Audio duration maximum is 10 minutes.

Goals & Achievements - 200 words.

A letter from the General Manager or Content Director confirming the entrant has not yet completed 2 and a half years (30 months, to 31 December 2023) full-time employment in NZ broadcasting. Note that internship is not deemed to be part of this period but those whose service includes previous overseas experience in radio (outside of the 30 month eligibility period), or NZ experience in television are not eligible.

Examples of optional additional material (limited to 4 additional pages):

  • Marketing material directly related to your work.
  • Evidence of major achievements during the year.
  • Evidence of multi-tasking, innovative or proactive approaches.
  • Letters of affidavits of support.
  • Press clippings.
  • Ratings information (where available).
JUDGING CRITERIA

50 POINTSBROADCAST OUTPUT

  • Audio evidence of the entrant’s effectiveness with their target audience. This will include the ability to inform, educate and/or entertain.
  • Professionalism, ability and effectiveness in job performance.
  • Connection with the audience (audience involvement).
  • Relevance, credibility and originality in delivery.

BEST NEW BROADCASTER - JOURNALIST

CATEGORY OBJECTIVE
To recognise outstanding talent and/or promise in those new to the radio broadcasting industry specialising in on air news, sports or journalism.

CATEGORY DESCRIPTION
This award is made to a new broadcaster who displays an outstanding ability to engage and inform their target audience. It acknowledges outstanding journalistic endeavour from an individual involved in the preparation of radio news and sports stories.

  • Journalistic endeavour, including the difficulty of the topic. The entry must provide a real sense of the journalistic endeavour used to inform listeners.
  • Effectiveness and the depth and accuracy of coverage.
  • Impact and originality.
  • Use of audio, clarity and presentation.

BEST NEW BROADCASTER - OFF AIR

CATEGORY OBJECTIVE
To recognise outstanding talent and/or promise in those new to the radio broadcasting industry.

CATEGORY DESCRIPTION
This award is made to a broadcaster, with less than two years full time employment in broadcasting in radio in New Zealand, who demonstrated outstanding talent and/or promise in an off-air role.
