Research

Since 2016, international research organisation GfK has conducted the Radio Audience Measurement in New Zealand for commercial radio, releasing three surveys each year across 13 markets. It is one of the biggest annual samples of consumer research in New Zealand.

The research is conducted over 40 weeks of the year and uses an optimal blend of paper and electronic diaries. Up to 20% is placed via research panels using demographic quotas while the remainder is placed door to door, choosing households randomly to participate.

The industry places enormous importance on ensuring the annual samples of over 15,000 people represent the general population of New Zealand over 10 years of age in terms of who they are and where they live.

Individual market results are also released for commercial radio for Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Northland, Waikato, Tauranga, Rotorua, Hawkes Bay, Taranaki, Manawatu, Nelson, Dunedin and Southland.

The New Zealand radio research is managed by the RBA’s Radio Industry Research Committee who is closely watching all audience measurement data trends internationally to ensure New Zealand is delivering the best data to advertisers and stakeholders.
